Leaving iMessage Group Chats (Simple and Straightforward)

If the group chat consists solely of iPhone users utilizing iMessage, leaving is a breeze:

  1. Open the Messages app.
  2. Tap on the group chat you wish to depart.
  3. Look at the top of the conversation for the group name or icons. Tap on it.
  4. Scroll down until you see “Leave this Conversation.”
  5. Tap “Leave this Conversation” to confirm your exit.

Leaving Mixed Group Chats (iMessage and SMS/MMS)

For group chats containing a mix of iPhone and Android users (SMS/MMS chats), leaving isn’t possible.

However, you can mute the chat to silence notifications:

  1. Open the Messages app.
  2. Swipe left on the group chat you want to mute.
